New Year of Service

New Year of Service

With the new year brings a lot of people making New Years Resolutions about getting more fit, losing weight and bettering themselves. It struck me that most if not all resolutions are about changing ones self. Self improvement and the ability to make significant change in ones life is not easy and a huge accomplishment. Don't get me wrong everyone should strive to better themselves and continue to grow but could you also grow by serving others. Could you also better ones self by helping others?

What if New Years resolutions were all about helping other people instead of ones self? What if you made a resolution that you were going to help your overweight co-worker loose a couple pounds by bringing them a couple homemade healthy lunches or going for a walk with them at lunch. You could use your fitness by shoveling the elderly neighbors snowy driveway or taking what you've learned in CrossFit and helping to create a better wellness program for your work. If you have been doing CrossFit for a length of time you might not realize the knowledge and overall fitness you have acquired. What better way to illustrate that then by helping others with it.

The awesome thing is that helping people is very similar to working out, because both feel really good when you're done. I suggest if you do decide to make helping others a New Years resolution you don't tell anyone about it. Don't post it on Instagram, Facebook or go tell a bunch of people just help people and never mention it. Be humble and help people because it's a good thing to do not because you want credit for it. Along with that don't be overbearing when trying to help someone, help that person in what they need help with not what you think they need.

While I'm on the subject you don't need a New Year to make a resolution to better yourself or help others you only need to act. If it's a good thing to do, then do it right now. A lot of people always wait till Monday's to start their diet or attack their goals. How about instead of waiting till Monday you do it today. If that day ends with the letters D-A-Y then it's a good day to start. Rock n Roll
