Competing

Competing

There's a lot to be said for competition and what it brings out in us. Basically that's the key to CrossFit's success. Even if you're not a games level competitor, every body competes in one form or another. Almost every WOD you ever do your competing against the clock, person next to you or you're competing against yourself.

CrossFit like weightlifting, power lifting and races give you an avenue to test yourself.
Competition pushes yourself to do things or try things you never thought you could do. Signing up for any competitive event is the best way to motivate yourself. Signing up instantly gives a defining purpose and time line. This is something we all need on occasion, we all need to push ourselves out of a comfort zone.

One person that I admire for her willingness to compete is Marcia. I don't think I know a person who has attending more competitions then Marcia. She is always putting herself out there to compete. I would attribute this willingness to compete to her vast improvement she made from last years open to this years open.

To be honest I have become too comfortable in some ways. I train hard and push myself in a lot of ways but I haven't put myself out their like I should be doing. I will fix that this summer. I plan on signing up for a couple events to test myself.

I highly recommend everyone signing up for some event this summer. It might be a CrossFit comp, weightlifting meet, powerlifting meet or race. It doesn't matter what it is just find something that you gives you a specific purpose to train for and put yourself out there. Putting yourself into an uncomfortable position is often the best place to grow.

The last thing I will say is if and when you sign up for an event make it something that is slightly uncomfortable.  So if you're a runner signing up for another 5K isn't really putting yourself out there. If you're a runner do a weightlifting meet. If you're a powerlifter sign up for a 10K race. Do you see where I'm going with this.  Push your boundaries.
